Turning Twenty Again

When we got this new line in called Gerta (the designer’s name) we had a great reaction to it, but we were often asked….What would I make with it?

Thought you would like to see what Helen did with it.

This is a great story. Helen’s granddaughter came to the shop to get her grandmother a Christmas present. Ginger helped her pick out fat quarters from the Gerta line.

Helen decided to do Turning Twenty Again, Saundra quilted it, Arlene bound it….and now it’s on our wall for all to enjoy it!!

We will have this up on our website soon so you can make one yourself if you can’t get to the shop.

New from In the Beginning

We have gotten in another beautiful line from In the Beginning called Elizabeth Rose. This one has a printed patchwork and a large stripe that was designed for the border.

Different colorways in this collection will make your decision difficult as both are lovely. The company designed this quilt for the Elizabeth Rose fabric line. We have the fabric in both colorways so we would be delighted to get the prints together for you to make this star within a star quilt. The finished size of this quilt is 87″ x 87″

Let’s Get Creative with Surface Design

Now we are no Picasso around here, but we can have a great time with our new selection of Paints, Mediums, and Inks…

Yikes, you say….what am I supposed to do with those? What is a Medium? When do I use each one? I can’t draw!!

I could say all of those things myself, but along with the Paints, Mediums, and Inks, comes Jane Davila’s new Surface Design Essentials book. It gives you 15 techniques and very clear pictures. This book gives you the confidence to branch out and get creative with paint.

If you learn better from a DVD, she has a new one out on Art Quilting, which will not only inspire you, but give you techniques and basic principles.

Eclectic Garden

In the Beginning does it again with another beautiful collection featuring the distinct style of Jason Yenter. We, of course, pulled out the red and green colorway to show off as it is our favorite.

Now we must admit that this collection of blues is one of the most stricking groups that we have seen.

This blue group could almost make us “blue people”. Hope you will be able to drop by the shop and take a look.

Join the Challenge

The countdown starts to the biggest event of our year which is the Bluebonnet Patchwork Shop Hop, April 15th - 18th, 2010.

One of the highlights of the Shop Hop is our Block Challenge. We hope lots of you will participate this year. Hospice Austin supports Camp Brave Heart which is a recreational camp for kids ages 6 - 17 who have experienced the loss of a loved one due to death. Blocks received from this challenge will end up in a quilt that will be received by a child at this camp.

We are out of the kits, but you can still try the other shops on the hop. There is a list on our website www.creations-online.com. Just scroll down to the Bluebonnet Patchwork Shop Hop for a list of the participating shops.

New to the Desert Series

We have just received the next in the Desert Series by Susan Cranshaw. What desert would be complete without an armadillo?

If you aren’t familiar with her patterns, they are raw edge fusible web applique and free motion quilting. Susan gives you lots of design possiblities for the quilting as well as great instructions for the fusible applique.

Never too early for Bluebonnets

It might only be December, but we are already eager for Bluebonnets… and they have arrived. Each year Moda manages to come up with another bluebonnet design and this year they really did some great prints. Everyone wants to know, what else can you do with a bluebonnet???…. well ask Moda…they figured it out.

It’s impossible to see the detail in this little photo, so our websmaster is working quickly to get these up on our website. We know lots of displaced Texans who love their bluebonnets.

The group came in those great yellows and light blues, but also with the black background. This colorway usually ends up being the most popular.

Great Winter Coat

What fun I had sewing this coat this morning. That’s right… it was only a morning project.

The fabric is a sherpa backed suede which is 60″ wide. All it took to make this coat was a couple of yards of fabric, Kwik Sew pattern 3358, the walking foot on my machine and a few hours. This pattern was designed for this fabric, so it was very easy.

I washed the fabric before I cut out the pattern. After cutting, I washed the pieces again so that there would not be any “fuzz”.

We have carried this fabric for several years, but it hasn’t been cold enough for a good warm coat. We made some great vests from these fabrics, but this year might just be the year for that coat.

These photos will give you an idea of the color choices we have. Along with these colors, we also have black suede with a black sherpa backing, brown suede with a brown sherpa backing, and natural with natural sherpa backing.
